Small Biz Owners Demand Legislation on Protecting Their Business

Thousands of small business owners gathered near the National Assembly on Monday, calling for the swift passage of pending bills regarding their livelihoods.

The Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise says around five-thousand of its members attended the rally at Yeouido Park in western Seoul.

They delivered a letter to the Assembly, urging it to act on their five major demands, including passing a special bill aimed at protecting them from growing competition with large companies, improving the minimum wage system and lowering credit card commission rates.

The federation’s head accused lawmakers of ignoring their demands despite a more than monthlong sit-in in front of the National Assembly, and urged parliament to quickly normalize its operations and pass the related bills.
