Gov't Unveils Plan to Stabilize Rising Agricultural Prices

The government is rolling up its sleeves to ease concerns over the country's rising agricultural prices.

Unveiling a plan for advanced shipping of some products to ease surging prices, the Agricultural Ministry on Wednesday assured the Korean people that cost of agricultural goods will soon begin to stabilize.

In the case of radish, the cold wave from the past winter has significantly reduced the amount in stock down to 55 percent of the annual average.

An increasing demand for "Pyongyang naengmyeon" or a cold noodle dish originating from Pyongyang, which drew world-wide attention after the recent inter-Korean summit, has also contributed to the skyrocketing price of radish. Radish is used to make broth and is also used as garnish.

The wholesale price of 20 kilograms of radish doubled the annual average this month, to 26-thousand-160 won.
