Moon Promotes Sales of Nuclear Reactors to Saudi Arabia

President Moon Jae-in has promoted South Korea’s prowess in the nuclear industry in a meeting with a visiting Saudi Arabian minister.

During a 35-minute meeting with Saudi Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid A. Al-Falih at the presidential office in Seoul on Friday, Moon spoke of the country’s wealth of experience in construction and management of nuclear reactors and their stability and economic efficiency.

According to Presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom, Moon said South Korea not only hopes to sell them to Saudi Arabia but wants to explore an opportunity to jointly make inroads into a third country’s nuclear reactor market.

The Saudi minister said his country is seeking joint development of small and mid-sized nuclear reactors with South Korea.

He said his government also hopes to partner with South Korea on the development of future cars, such as fuel-cell and electric vehicles, adding they are willing to actively invest in the area.

Noting that Seoul and Riyadh have maintained close cooperation based on trust, Moon said he hopes they will continue their partnership for win-win growth.
