S. Korea's Consumer Prices Up 1.6% in April

South Korea's consumer prices remained relatively stable in April, but agricultural produce prices and the cost of dining out continued to increase.

According to Statistics Korea on Wednesday, the country's consumer price index gained one-point-six percent last month from a year earlier.

The growth remained in the one-percent range for seven straight months since it posted a two-point-one percent increase in September last year.

The rise was mainly led by prices of agricultural goods, which jumped eight-point-nine percent last month. Potato prices soared 77 percent and rice prices jumped 30 percent.

Service prices increased one-point-six percent, and the cost of dining out climbed two-point-seven percent last month from a year earlier.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile oil and food prices, grew one-point-four percent in April.
