The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) on Friday rose 16-point-76 points, or point-68 percent, closing the day at two-thousand-492-point-40.  

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ also rose, gaining seven-point-10 points, or point-81 percent. It closed the day at 886-point-49. 

The stock markets were boosted by hopes of improved inter-Korean relations as talks between the leaders of the two nations kicked off on Friday.

On the foreign exchange, the local currency strengthened four-point-three won against the dollar, ending the session at one-thousand-76-point-six won.
