FTC Probing Korean Air on Suspicions of Intra-Group Dealings

The Fair Trade Commission(FTC) is investigating Korean Air on allegations of intra-group dealings.

According to industry insiders on Tuesday, the FTC recently sent six investigators to look into the air carrier’s in-flight sales team which handles duty free items sold on board aircrafts.

The commission is seeking to find out if Korean Air provided undue profits to Cho Yang-ho, who is the chairman of Hanjin Group, the parent company of Korean Air, and his family members in terms of duty-free shopping.

The probe comes as police are looking into suspicions that Cho’s youngest daughter, Cho Hyun-min, abused her power and threw a drink at an ad agency employee and as customs officials are probing allegations that the national flag carrier evaded taxes.
