S. Korea Again 2nd Largest Importer of US Beef

A new report finds that South Korea was the second largest importer of U.S. beef in 2017, the second year in row.

According to the U.S. Meat Export Federation’s annual report released on Monday, South Korea imported about one-point-two billion dollars worth of beef from the U.S. last year, just behind Japan which imported nearly one-point-nine billion dollars worth.

Shipments to South Korea accounted for around 17 percent of total U.S. beef exports last year.

In terms of quantity, South Korea imported some 184-thousand metric tons of American beef last year, coming in third after Japan and Mexico.

In 2017, Korea’s imports of U.S. beef surpassed Australian beef to dominate the local market for the first time in 14 years.
