Top 1% Earners' Annual Salary 10 Times Larger than Median Income

State data show that the annual salary of the nation’s top one percent earners was ten times larger than the median income of South Korean workers.

According to the data compiled by the National Tax Service,177-thousand-400 workers in the upper one percent bracket earned a total of 43-point-two trillion won in 2016, earning about 20 million won on average per month.

Over the cited period, the median income of South Korean salaried workers stood at 24-point-two million won per year, or about two million won per month.

According to the data released by Rep. Park Kwang-on of the Democratic Party of Korea on Sunday, the top one percent is also making as much money as those at the bottom 30 percent combined.
