Mnuchin: US to Continue to Use Sanctions on N. Korea

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the U.S. will continue to use sanctions against North Korea until the regime agrees to a complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Mnuchin made the remark on Wednesday during an interview with FOX Business Network.

The secretary said that one of the major reasons for North Korea's return to the negotiating table is economic sanctions, adding that the sanctions programs do work, they are powerful tools and will continue to be used.

He noted that as President Donald Trump said, Washington is willing to talk and negotiate with Pyongyang, but it would not stop sanctions until the North gives an assurance of its denuclearization.
