'US Steel Industry Injured by Imports of Large Diameter Welded Pipe'

The U.S. International Trade Commission(ITC) has determined that the U.S. steel industry has suffered due to imports of large diameter welded pipe from South Korea and five other countries.

The commission on Monday voted to continue investigations concerning large diameter welded pipe imports from South Korea, Canada, China, Greece, India and Turkey. The ITC said it found reasonable indications that the U.S. steel industry is suffering or could suffer from the imports.

As a result of the commission’s determination, the U.S. Department of Commerce will continue with its antidumping and countervailing duty investigations, with its preliminary countervailing duty determinations due around April 16th and its antidumping duty determinations due around June 29th.

The ITC looked over the case after six U.S. steel industries, including American Cast Iron Pipe Company, filed a petition saying they were facing hardships due to imported large diameter welded pipe.

Large diameter welded pipes are usually used in producing oil pipelines. South Korea exported roughly 150 million dollars worth of such pipes to the U.S. in 2016. SeAH Steel Corporation and Hyundai Steel are the main exporters of such pipes.
