US Commerce Secretary: No Exemptions for Trump's Steel Tariffs

U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross says that President Donald Trump has no plan to exempt certain countries from his proposed steel and aluminum tariffs.

The secretary made the remarks on Sunday during an interview with U.S. broadcaster ABC, saying that "the decision obviously is his, but as of the moment he’s talking about a fairly broad brush."

He said that he has not heard Trump describe particular exemptions just yet, adding that the U.S. president has had conversations with a number of world leaders.

However, Secretary Ross hinted at the possibility of Trump changing his mind during an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," saying that ministers of many countries talked with President Trump and himself.

Trump is expected to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports this week. He said he would introduce a tariff of 25 percent on steel and ten percent on aluminum imports.
