Religious Groups of 2 Koreas to Exchange Messages Marking 3.1 Independence Mov't

Amid a recent thaw in inter-Korean relations, religious communities from the Koreas will remotely take part in each other's events to commemorate a major independence movement against Japan’s colonial rule.

A pan-religious group in the South said on Wednesday that it will hold an event at the Seoul headquarters of Chondogyo, a local religion, to mark the 99th anniversary of the March First Independence Movement on Thursday.

According to the group, a congratulatory message sent from its North Korean counterpart will be read aloud during the event. The North Korean group is expected to do the same in Pyongyang, using a congratulatory message from the South.

The group said some Christian and Buddhist leaders as well as Chondogyo leaders will attend the meeting in the South.
