Officials of Two Koreas Discussed Inter-Korean Relations and Peace on Peninsula

The Unification Ministry says South Korean officials discussed inter-Korean relations and peace on the Korean Peninsula with North Korea's high-level delegation that was visiting the nation for the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

A ministry official told reporters Tuesday that there was a general exchange of views on how to coordinate sustainable inter-Korean relations and ways to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula, as well as cooperation with the international community.

On the prospect of future South-North ties, the official said the North's participation in the PyeongChang Olympics and Paralympics should go beyond creating a mood of reconciliation between the two Korea to contribute toward resolving fundamental issues concerning the peninsula and toward realizing dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang.

The official also stressed that there should be continued efforts from all levels to create an environment for peace to take root on the peninsula.

The official added that the meeting with the North Korean delegation had not been held under a specific agenda.
