US Official: No US-N. Korea Contact Made at Olympic Closing Ceremony

The U.S. delegation attending the closing ceremony of Pyeongchang Winter Olympics did not make any contact with the North Korean delegation.

An official of the U.S. Embassy in Seoul said Monday there had been "no interaction" between U.S. and North Korean envoys and that a senior U.S. official also confirmed there had not been any contact.

There had been speculation that such contact could be made as North-Korea's high level delegation included deputy director general for North American affairs at the North's Foreign Ministry, Choe Kang-il, and the U.S. delegation to the closing ceremony included Allison Hooker, Washington's National Security Council official who specializes in Korean affairs.

It is still uncertain if attempts for contact were not made at all or whether one side rejected the other party's offer for interaction.
