'Pres. Moon Mentioned Denuclearization to N. Korean Official'

President Moon Jae-in is said to have mentioned the issue of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula to Kim Yong-chol, the head of a high-level North Korean delegation visiting for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics' closing ceremony.

A senior official of the top office told KBS on Monday that the president mentioned denuclearization during a private meeting with Kim on Sunday but stopped short of elaborating.

The official’s remarks suggest that Moon is likely to have explained his two-stage process of denuclearization to Kim.

Under the process, the international community, including the U.S., would take corresponding measures in a step-by-step manner should the North halt its nuclear and missile provocations and come to the negotiating table to discuss denuclearization.
