S. Korea's Net External Assets Rise to Record High

South Korea’s net external assets hit a record high last year.

The Bank of Korea said net external assets, or external assets subtracted by external liabilities, stood at 456-point-seven billion dollars at the end of last year, marking an annual growth of 60 billion dollars.

External assets surged to a record high level of 875-point-five billion dollars, up by 94-point-seven billion dollars from the end of 2016.

External liabilities grew 34-point-seven billion dollars in a year to 418-point-eight billion dollars, marking the first growth in three years.

Short-term liabilities accounted for 27-point-seven percent of the whole external liabilities, the highest since 2012, but the central bank said it is still at a healthy level.
