DP Welcomes N. Korea's Decision to Send Another Delegation to PyeongChang

South Korea's ruling Democratic Party(DP) has welcomed North Korea’s decision to send a delegation to the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Spokeswoman Kim Hyun said in a media briefing on Thursday that the party expects the visit by a high-profile North Korean delegation, to be led by vice chairman of the Central Committee of the North's ruling Workers' Party Kim Yong-chol, will contribute to further easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and developing the inter-Korean relationship.

She also conveyed the party’s hope to see a meeting between the North’s delegation and a U.S. delegation on the sidelines of the PyeongChang Games, adding the party hopes they can talk candidly with each other.

The spokeswoman also praised President Moon Jae-in for his summit diplomacy during the PyeongChang Games, noting how he has drawn cooperation from visiting leaders on various issues, including his focus on improving inter-Korean ties and finding a peaceful solution to the North Korean nuclear issue.

She said the ruling party also wishes success for the PyeongChang Paralympic Games.
