S. Korea Softens Anti-N. Korea Propaganda Loudspeaker Broadcasts

The South Korean military appears to have toned down its loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts against North Korea in the border area.

According to a document submitted by the military's psychological warfare campaign unit on Thursday, the Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) issued an order last year to not mention North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the loudspeaker broadcasts.

The JCS reportedly issued the order under the judgment that direct criticism of Kim might cause hostility from North Koreans.

The most recent loudspeaker broadcasts focused on the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, the joint march of the two Koreas at the opening ceremony and the inter-Korean joint ice hockey team.
