Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok says Seoul will mull any means of keeping the atmosphere of peace on the Korean Peninsula in coordination with the United States.
Im made the remark on Wednesday during a briefing to the National Assembly's House Steering Committee after being asked if Seoul is considering sending a special envoy to Pyongyang as a return courtesy to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sending his sister to the PyeongChang Olympics.
Im said everyone's concern is how to maintain the peaceful atmosphere created through the PyeongChang Olympic Games.
Regarding opposition parties' claims that the differences in Seoul and Washington's North Korea policies had led to the U.S. taking tough trade actions against the South, Im stressed that dialogue and cooperation with the U.S. is closer than ever before, citing that direct talks are taking place through various channels.
