North Korea is encouraging local scientists and engineers to contribute to a self-sustaining economy amid toughened global sanctions against the regime.

The North's ruling party's newspaper, the Rodong Sinmun, recently issued an article about the recent achievements by researchers at Kim Chaek University of Technology in Pyongyang.

The report said that the university set a high goal of pursuing about 400 science research projects that will greatly contribute to enhancing the self-reliance of the country's economy.

It also introduced multiple science and technology issues handled and resolved by the university researchers.
