Wine Imports Top $200 Mn in 2017

Wine imports have been on the rise with total imports surpassing 200 million dollars.

According to the Korea Customs Service on Saturday, wine imports grew nine-point-seven percent last year to over 210 million dollars.

Previously, wine imports grew by around 15 percent annually between 2011 and 2013. But, sidelined by the popularity of imported beer, growth has slowed, dropping to six percent in 2014, four percent in 2015 and below one percent in 2016.

But growth surged to nearly ten percent in 2017.

By country, French wine posted the sharpest growth of over 13 percent last year at well over 68 million dollars, followed by Chilean wine at 40 million dollars. Wine imports from Italy and the U.S. round out the top four.
