S. Korea's Job Growth Recovers to Above 300,000 in January

South Korea's job growth recovered to above 300-thousand for the first time in four months thanks to improved employment in the manufacturing sector.

According to data by Statistics Korea on Wednesday, the number of people with jobs stood at 26-point-two million in January, up 334-thousand from a year earlier.

After the number of employed people increased by 314-thousand in September, the growth had stayed below the 300-thousand mark.

It wasn't all positive, however, as the number of jobless surpassed one million for the first time in seven months.

The country's overall employment rate reached 59-point-five percent, while the jobless rate remained unchanged at three-point-seven percent last month.

The unemployment rate for young people, aged between 15 and 29, came to eight-point-seven percent, up point-one percentage point from a year earlier.
