Flights Nearly Booked for Lunar New Year Holiday

Ahead of the lunar New Year holiday starting on Thursday, flights on South Korean flag carriers are almost fully booked.

The reservation rate on Korean Air's European routes between next Wednesday and Sunday stands at 97 percent.

This appears to be due to South Koreans traveling overseas during the holiday or Korean students abroad returning home for the Lunar New Year when families traditionally gather.

Flight reservations with Korean Air for destinations in Oceania such as Australia, New Zealand, Guam and Saipan have also surged to 87 percent.

Meanwhile, Asiana Airlines has also reported an 82.1 percent reservation rate.

Seventy to eighty percent of air tickets to Japan, China and Southeast Asian nations are also booked.
