South Korea is considering supplying petroleum for North Korea's Mangyongbong-92 ferry which traveled to the South on Tuesday, carrying the North's art troupe which will perform around the PyeongChang Olympic period.
In a regular briefing on Wednesday, Unification Ministry Spokesman Baik Tae-hyun revealed the North had asked the South for fuel that would be used to operate the ferry.
Baik said Seoul is currently reviewing the request, adding that the North had used its own oil and food supplies when transporting the art troupe to the South on Tuesday.
Regarding criticism that providing oil supplies would go against joint global efforts to apply pressure on North Korea, Baik said South Korea will closely consult with the U.S. and other related countries regarding the provision of amenities to the North to avoid breaching sanctions.
