Price of Bitcoin in S. Korea Falls to Lowest Level in 2018

The price of bitcoin in South Korea has fallen to its lowest level of the year so far.

According to Bithumb, the country’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, bitcoin was being traded at slightly over six-point-nine million won as of 4 p.m. on Tuesday, more than 20 percent lower than Monday.

The rapid fall in price has been attributed to strengthened regulations in major markets, including South Korea, the U.S. and U.K., as well as market jitters surrounding the stability of another digital currency called Tether.

A 58-billion-yen theft from a Japanese cryptocurrency exchange last month also caused investors to flee from digital currencies.
