S. Korea's Consumer Prices Rose at Slowest Pace in 17 Months in January

South Korea's consumer prices rose at the slowest pace in 17 months in January.

Statistics Korea said on Thursday that the nation’s consumer price index climbed one percent last month from a year earlier, marking the slowest gain in 17 months since August 2016.

The sluggish gain was mainly due to lower prices of agricultural products.

Vegetable prices fell 12-point-nine percent, pulling down overall prices by a quarter of a percentage point.

Electricity, gas and water utilities also decreased by one-point-five percent last month.
