S. Korean Skiers Arrive in N. Korea for Joint Training

A South Korean delegation has arrived in North Korea for joint ski training to be held at a famous ski resort in the North through Thursday.

An official of Seoul’s Unification Ministry said a chartered airplane from Asiana Airlines carrying the 45-member delegation landed in Kalma Airport in the North Korean city of Wonsan at 11:54 a.m. on Wednesday.

The delegation, which left Yangyang Airport in the South's eastern province of Gangwon at 10:40 a.m., is led by Lee Joo-tae, director-general of the Unification Ministry, and includes 31 athletes, staffers, and journalists.

According to the Unification Ministry, the South Korean skiers will attend individual training sessions at the Masikryong Ski Resort Wednesday afternoon before joining North Korean skiers for joint training sessions and friendship-promoting events in the same venue.

They will return to Yangyang Airport at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, along with North Korean athletes who will compete at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Upon their arrival in the South, the North Koreans will head to the Athletes’ Village in Gangneung to prepare for the PyeongChang Games.
