Booyoung Group Chief Faces Questioning

Prosecutors are grilling the head of a local construction giant over allegations of tax evasion and embezzlement.

Booyoung Group Chairman Lee Joong-keun appeared at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on Wednesday for questioning.

He is the second conglomerate chief to undergo prosecutors’ questioning since the launch of the Moon Jae-in government after Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-joon.

Asked by reporters about suspicions that he pocketed undue profits in the process of selling rental apartments, Lee said he had abided by the law.

Prosecutors had summoned Lee to appear for questioning on Monday and Tuesday but Lee had refused the summons citing health and personal reasons.

The prosecution also believes that Lee embezzled billions of won in company money.
