Samsung Electronics has reported record quarterly profit in the fourth quarter of last year.

The South Korean tech giant said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday that its fourth quarter operating profit jumped 64-point-three percent on-year to reach a record 15-point-15 trillion won.

The firm's sales grew 23-point-seven percent to reach 65-point-98 trillion won in the September-December period.

Samsung marked a record operating profit of ten-point-nine trillion won in its chip business in the fourth quarter.

For the whole of 2017, Samsung marked sales of 239-point-58 trillion won and operating profits of 53-point-65 trillion won, both record highs.
