The government plans to announce a set of measures this March to help ease the toughening livelihoods of South Korea's young population.
An official of the presidential office disclosed the plan in an interview with Yonhap News on Friday, saying the measures will not only address their school expenses, but also offer support in many other challenging areas for them, including employment, marriage and housing.
The government’s move comes amid a recent setback in President Moon Jae-in’s approval rating, particularly among those in their 20s and 30s.
The official explained the presidential office is accepting the trend as a warning for its lack of communication with the public in implementing some recent policies such as restrictions on cryptocurrency investments and forming a unified team with North Korea for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
The official added that the Moon administration hopes to resolve youth-related social issues by actively communicating with them.
