N. Korea Criticizes US Deployment of Strategic Military Assets

North Korea has criticized the U.S. for deploying a host of strategic assets in the Asia-Pacific region, saying it is throwing cold water on improving the inter-Korean relationship and easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

The criticism lodged by the spokesperson for the Institute for American Studies of the North’s Foreign Ministry was carried on Wednesday by several North Korean media outlets, including the official newspaper of the North's ruling Workers' Party, the Rodong Sinmun.

The North Korean spokesperson mentioned the recent mobilization of the USS Carl Vinson supercarrier near the Korean Peninsula and the U.S.’ plan to deploy another U.S. aircraft carrier, USS John C. Stennis.

The spokesperson also blamed the deployment of EC-130H Compass Call aircraft at Osan Air Base, three B-2 stealth bombers and six B-52 strategic bombers in Guam as well as an announced plan regarding a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM) test-launch.
