A senior Seoul official is urging Pyongyang to hold talks with Washington, saying it is an ideal time for dialogue between the U.S. and North Korea.
The official from Seoul’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the remarks during a meeting with reporters on Wednesday, noting the U.S. is presenting the North with a rare chance for bilateral talks.
Assessing the U.S.’ current North Korea policy, the official said the prerequisites the Trump administration has set for the resumption of talks with Pyongyang are more attainable than those set by previous U.S. administrations.
According to the official, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the U.S. is willing to hold talks as long as the North does not make additional provocations, adding President Donald Trump made similar comments.
The official added the North should come to the negotiating table before the U.S. changes its mind.
