South Korea's Defense Ministry says it is waiting for a response from North Korea on holding inter-Korean military talks.
Ministry Spokeswoman Choi Hyun-soo said in a regular briefing Tuesday that the South hasn't yet heard back from the North.
She said no specific measures are in place to pursue the dialogue but did add that the ministry would promptly notify the media if related developments take place.
In July last year, the South's Defense Ministry had proposed holding military talks with the North and earlier this month, the two sides agreed to hold the talks during high-level South-North dialogue.
Also on Tuesday, the press chief of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS), Roh Jae-cheon, commented on reports that the North appears to be preparing to hold a large-scale military parade on February eighth to mark the anniversary of the founding of its regular armed forces. He said JCS data shows that the North has not held such a parade on that date before.
He then added that despite the postponement in joint drills with the U.S., the South Korean military plans to hold its own exercises as initially planned in order to remain in full readiness posture.
He added that military forces are normally conducting drills in the field even now.
