Excess Development Gains in 4 Districts in Southern Seoul Estimated at 840 Mln Won

Owners of old apartments subject to reconstruction projects in four affluent districts in southern Seoul will likely be required to pay up to 840 million won for their possible excess development gains.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on Sunday that possible development gains for 15 apartment complexes in Gangnam, Seocho, Songpa and Gangdong districts were estimated at 439 million won on average.

The highest was 840 million won, while the lowest was 160 million won.

The comparable figure for five other districts was 147 million won.

The government revived the development gains recapturing system this year, which requires home owners to return up to over 50 percent of their profits if their housing price rises surpass the average in relevant regions from reconstruction and development projects.
