77,000 Irregular Workers to Switch to Full-Time Positions This Year

Around 77-thousand nonregular workers at public corporations will be converted to full-time workers this year.

The government will also conduct clampdowns through March on five thousand workplaces belonging to five types of establishments, including gas stations, convenience stores, supermarkets and restaurants, to check whether the minimum wage hike is properly implemented and root out cases of violation.

The Employment and Labor Ministry gave a briefing of its 2018 plans to this effect to Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon during the first ministerial briefings of the new year held Thursday.

The hourly minimum wage was raised 16-point-four percent this year to seven-thousand-530 won.
