President Moon Jae-in has visited South Korea’s main athletes’ training center for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics to encourage the athletes.
After arriving at Jincheon National Training Center in North Chungcheong Province on Wednesday morning, Moon was briefed by the center’s head Lee Jae-geun on the conditions of the athletes and the goals of Team Korea.
Accompanied by Culture Minister Do Jong-hwan and Korean Sports and Olympic Committee chief Lee Kee-heung, Moon watched a training session by short track speed skaters and talked with the team’s manager Kim Sun-tae. The president also watched men and women ice hockey players training.
Meanwhile, during a luncheon meeting with the athletes at the center, Moon said the two Koreas marching together during the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Games or even creating a unified team will help improve the bilateral relationship much more than the North simply participating in the games.
He said such possible measures will be a good starting point for thawing the frozen inter-Korean relationship.
