S. Korean Chief Delegate: Inter-Korean Talks to Focus on PyeongChang Olympics

The head of South Korea's delegation to Wednesday’s working-level dialogue with the North expects the talks to remain focused on the main goal of discussing the North’s participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung made the remark Tuesday during a signboard hanging ceremony for the office to be used by a South Korean government task force to assist the North’s participation in the Games.

Chun said the talks will focus on the specifics regarding the other members of the North Korean delegation, including athletes, high-level government officials and a cheering squad.

During separate working-level talks on Monday, the two Koreas confirmed the details of the scheduled visit to the South by a North Korean art troupe.

Asked whether Seoul will raise the issue of holding reunions of war-separated families during Wednesday's talks, Chun said it's not easy for the two Koreas to discuss a variety of pending issues at the same session.

Noting the PyeongChang Olympics will kick off in roughly 20 days, he said the two Koreas will focus their discussions on the North's participation in the global sporting event.
