South Korea has surged to an early lead at the World Student Games by claiming four out of five gold medals on offer. A hat-trick of golds in Korea's traditional martial art, taekwondo, was followed by victory in the women's epee fencing on the second day of full competition on Saturday. Kim Hak-Hwan and Hwang Kyung-Hwa delighted the home crowd with men's and women's welterweight taekwondo wins while Jang Eun-Suk beat Taiwan's Wu Yen-Ni to take the women's flyweight title. Kim Hee-Jeong's fencing victory over Zhang Li of China rounded off a fine day for South Korea, which with five golds has already surpassed its tally of three at the last Universiade in Beijing. China and Taiwan are following South Korea on the leaderboard with one gold medal respectively as of Sunday afternoon.
