S. Korean Consumer Group to File First Local Suit against Apple

A South Korean consumer activist group will file for a compensation suit against Apple and its local headquarters for a reward of two-point-two million won per plaintiff.

The Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty(CUCS) said on Wednesday that it will file the damage suit with the Seoul Central District Court on Thursday on behalf of 150 people who claim damages from Apple slowing down its older iPhones to solve their battery problems.

It will be the first local damage suit over the case.

Local law firm Hannuri Law is preparing a separate lawsuit and accepting applicants. More than 352-thousand people have signed up as of Tuesday morning.

Apple is facing class action lawsuits at home and abroad after it announced last month that it deliberately slowed the performance of older iPhones that have a degraded and aged battery to prevent unexpected shutdowns.
