S. Korea: Inter-Korean Talks Likely to Be Minister-Level

South Korea says it expects high-level inter-Korean dialogue to be a ministerial-level meeting if the talks go ahead.

An official from Seoul’s Unification Ministry told reporters Thursday that Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon will likely spearhead the South Korean side if the North is led by Ri Son-gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland.

Ri announced the North’s plan to reopen the communication hotline at the truce village of Panmunjeom on Wednesday, via which the two Koreas plan to discuss the details of the potential talks.

However, the Seoul official added the exact members of the South Korean delegation, including its top representative, will be confirmed through discussions among the related ministries depending on the nature and agendas of the talks.
