Consumer Prices Grow at Steepest Pace in 5 Years This Year

South Korea's consumer prices grew at the steepest pace in five years this year on a rise in oil prices.

According to data by Statistics Korea on Friday, the country's consumer price index climbed one-point-five percent this month from a year earlier.

The index rebounded in December after it marked the year's slowest growth at one-point-three percent last month. Consumer prices rose more than two percent for two months in a row before slowing down to a one-point-eight percent rise in October.

Prices for the entire year increased one-point-nine percent from a year earlier, the largest gain since 2012 when they grew two-point-two percent.
