Gov't to Review Imposing Real Estate Holding Tax

The government plans to review the possibility of imposing a real estate holding tax on those who own multiple properties.

The move to look into the tax was made Wednesday during a National Economic Advisory Council meeting presided over by President Moon Jae-in.

A special tax and finance committee under the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning will likely spearhead the review.

Their aim is to come up with a detailed plan for the potential taxation by August, when the administration announces its long-term tax policy, and submit a related bill to parliament by September at the earliest.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance emphasized that the review will help bring about fair taxation.
