The government and the ruling Democratic Party have suggested measures to eradicate unfair practices between large conglomerates and small businesses.
The country's corporate watchdog Fair Trade Commission(FTC) and the party held a meeting on Thursday at the National Assembly to discuss the measures.
The FTC and the party decided to abolish a regulation that bans subcontractors from directly filing a complaint on technology infringement by large firms. Currently, only the FTC can file such complaints.
FTC Chairman Kim Sang-jo said that unfair trade practices against subcontractors stem from a power imbalance between conglomerates and small firms. Kim went on to say this was why they are announcing a set of measures to address the imbalance.
The party and the government reportedly decided to ensure law enforcement authorities will more actively participate in the monitoring of unfair practices to prevent large firms from stealing technology developed by small firms.
