Samsung Mass-Produces World's 1st 2nd-Generation DRAM Chips

Samsung Electronics said Wednesday it has begun mass-production of the world’s smallest, highly advanced semiconductor memory chip.

It’s a second-generation, ten-nanometer class DRAM chip.  DRAM stands for dynamic random access memory.

The mass-production of the second-generation DRAM chip comes 21 months after Samsung began mass-producing the first-generation ten-nanometer DRAM chip.

According to the company, the new chip is at least ten percent faster and 15 percent more energy efficient than the first-generation chip, and will be highly useful in processing-intensive tasks such as cloud computing and graphics generation.
