Half of Foreign Workers in S. Korea Receive 2-3Mln Won Monthly Salary

Nearly half of foreign workers in South Korea are making an average of two to three million won every month on average.

Statistics Korea and the Ministry of Justice released data Wednesday offering a glimpse into the economic activities of one-million-278-thousand migrant workers residing long term in South Korea.

They were all aged 15 or older as of May, and consisted of one-million-225-thousand people who stayed in South Korea over three months and 53-thousand people who have been naturalized within five years.

Of them, 375-thousand people, or 46-point-nine percent, said their average monthly wage is between two million won and three million won.

Two in five migrant workers said they are sending money to their families or relatives at home on a regular basis. Around 25 percent of them reported annual remittance worth between 10 million won and 15 million won.
