S. Korea to Build More Solar, Wind Power Plants by 2030

South Korea will spend 110 trillion won to build more solar and wind power plants by 2030.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Wednesday held a policy meeting in Seoul and released its action plan to implement "renewable energy 3020," which aims to increase the country's dependency on renewable energy sources to 20 percent by 2030 from seven percent in 2016.

To that end, the government decided to build additional renewable energy facilities with a combined power output of 48-point-seven gigawatts, which is equivalent to building 35 new nuclear power plants.

Solar power plants will make up the largest part of the new facilities at 63 percent, while wind power plants will take up 34 percent.
