N. Korea Marks 6th Anniversary of Kim Jong-il's Death

North Korea on Sunday marked the sixth anniversary of its former leader Kim Jong-il, the father of current leader Kim Jong-un.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that senior officials of the ruling Workers' Party paid their respects for the former leader at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang on Sunday at midnight, where the body of Kim lies in state.

The report added that a number of North Koreans paid their respects on the anniversary at the statue of the former leader and his father Kim Il Sung at Mansu Hill in Pyongyang.

North Korea’s Korean Central Television (KCTV) network broadcasted interviews and documentary films on the former leader.

The North Korean media, however, did not mention whether leader Kim Jong-un visited the palace. Kim has visited and paid his respect during every anniversary for the past five years.
