S. Korea Holds 72% Share in Global DRAM Market

South Korean tech giants are maintaining their overwhelming dominance in the global market for dynamic random access memory or DRAM chips.

According to data compiled by market researcher IHS Markit, Samsung Electronics accounted for a 44-point-five percent of the global share in the third quarter in terms of revenue. SK Hynix had the second largest share at 27-point-nine percent.

Their combined share of 72-point-three percent is slightly higher than a year ago.

U.S.-based Micron Technology followed at third place trailed by Taiwan's Nanya Technology Corporation.

Industry watchers forecast chip sales will post further gains next year as new demand is continuously created in areas of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.
