The National Tax Service(NTS) said Wednesday that it has launched investigations into 37 South Koreans suspected of evading paying taxes.
 
The suspects reportedly hoarded their income or wealth in overseas tax havens or lied through fraudulent activities disguised as investments in foreign-based companies.
 
The NTS said some of the suspects include those disclosed to be involved in illegal offshore activities through the “Paradise Papers” project by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists(ICIJ).
 
 The tax authorities say those confirmed to have evaded paying tax will be dealt with severely in accordance with the related laws.
