'UN Official Did Not Carry US Message to N. Korea'

The U.S. State Department said on Tuesday that a senior UN official who is visiting North Korea was not carrying a message from the U.S. government.

UN Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman arrived in Pyongyang earlier on Tuesday on a four-day visit amid heightened tensions after the North's recent missile provocation.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said during a regular news briefing that the UN official is going on behalf of the UN, not the U.S.

Nauert said that the U.S. is certainly aware of his travels under the auspices of his role with the United Nations to North Korea.
